Karen was born in Greenwood, Mississippi and raised in Jackson. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, emphasis in Photojournalism, from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

As a photographer, some of Karen’s highlights include her work for Mississippi Public Broadcasting, former Vice President Al Gore, Environmental Protection Agency, 2021 Mississippi Museum of Art’s Mississippi Invitational, 2023 USA International Ballet Competition, and Ballet Mississippi. 

Her commissions can be found in private collections throughout the United States, in Canada and the UK, and she has been published in The Clarion Ledger, Hattiesburg American, Mississippi Business Journal, Portico Magazine, Elevation, Mississippi Magazine, Pointe Magazine, NHK World-Japan, The Japan News, Yomiuri Shimbun, and China Daily.
